This tapestry, BETWEEN THE WEB AND THE LOOM,

is part of a larger collaborative project called LOOM that contains three projection pieces, a soundtrack and the 23 small tapestries titled THE WEAVER. The whole project was inspired by a short story, The Weaver, from the collection The Masked Fisherman, by Orcadian writer, George Mackay Brown. I was approached by dancer/choreographer Claire Pencak to collaborate with her on this project. I was delighted to participate as I have always had a special interest in dance. First we spent a week working with two dancers, improvising from the text and from the kinds of movements a weaver makes. From this material Claire created a twelve phrase piece of choreography which was filmed by video artist, John McGeoch. I then wove Between The Web and the Loom as a background for the dance video to be projected into. (incomplete)
