Rognavald’s Landing is inspired by a story from the Orkneyinga Saga, talks of the Viking Earls of Orkney. Earl Rognavald, returning with his men from a visit to his cousin the king of Norway, is shipwrecked in Gulberwick Bay in Shetland. The two beautiful boars, Hjolf (help) and Fifa (arrow), parting gifts from the king, are destroyed on the rocks after becoming embayed in a fog. The men escape with no loss of life and are taken in by a local family.
